Motion Track Vegas pro 16 (5 Tracking Masks Simultaneously Applied)

Just for informational purposes, I would like to inform you that the development team is still working hard on improving this feature. User feedback is being collected and some positive results can already be shown.

The scripts used in this example are not the official scripts finalized, but we can already have an idea of how the final result will be.

This Vegas Pro 16 Motion Tracking tool is simply fantastic and at least for me it's already a big differential in Vegas.

The purpose of the video is just to show the feature in action and what you can do with it. I did not do a step-by-step tutorial because it would be too long, but I'll do it soon.

Thanks to the developers and users of Vegas who are giving suggestions for the constant improvements of this feature.

@Former user Well, that’s a truly Stella performance, one which I was happy for somebody else to accomplish.

It's beginning to alarm me that the only purpose people are finding for the vegas motion tracking is for tagging text to an object & blurring people's faces. I haven't seen any example of very precise bezier masking of complex shapes being used in coordination with motion tracking to greatly reduce manual rotoscoping/keyframing. That had to be the main hope/purpose for users surely?

Can vp16 do that or will it be able to?

This is a real world example of what i'd like vegas to be able to do. A person's face is underexposed, but background is perfect, person is moving around in frame, you want to mask the face perfectly so you can increase exposure but not affect background

It is perfectly possible to do all that you quoted and more. Just know how to use this feature correctly. Do not be alarmed at how people use the resource. Each one uses it the way it thinks best. It is not because you use for a purpose that everyone should do the same as you.

That's good to hear. It's just so far I've only seen projects that compete with the basic tracking from very simple editors, not the 5 trackers at once, that's not found on simple editors but the final video could be achieved with multiple passes.

So this is an example I did, I badly aligned your head on another guy's head, the camera pulls out. Left settings on auto, no manual correction, so motion tracker must deal with x,y,rotation,z. Can vegas 16 do that reasonably easy, with manually correcting the track allowed?

@Former user Luvvin’ it.

Preliminary testing with MASK FX seems to give inconsistent results where some effects are operating both inside and outside the mask while others aren't - not sure I am doing this correctly, so wondering if anyone else is experiencing this? For example, compare behaviour of black & white fx vs colour corrector fx.

Do you mean Mask FX (which actually is a luma key) combined with Bézier Mask FX or the mask option of Bézier Mask FX?

Kinvermark wrote on 9/9/2018, 12:35 PM

Sorry, I mean the option checkbox in Bezier Mask FX.

Question: Say, for example, you have two people in front of a background and you need to make one face brighter, the other face less "green", and the background dark. Can you do that with the new Bezier Mask FX?

Kinvermark wrote on 9/9/2018, 1:01 PM

Update: 1) OK, made a mistake with the blend slider. My bad. Mask FX (checkbox) works as expected.

2) Looks like Bezier Masking works just like pan/crop mask as far as FX go. That is, ALL or NOTHING. That's OK, but means if you want to make three corrections as in my example above, you need to stack two copies of the clip and copy and invert the masks to composite the whole thing.

"Quick and dirty" example of tracking a very jerky, unstabilized shot.  I am impressed.  Tracking is pretty accurate and only falls off on the very worst camera movement.  A little bit of feather and blend makes the effect believable.

Notes:

1) You need a big preview to be able to accurately draw a "curves" mask with the pen tool.  A "zoom in" feature would be good to have for this work.

2) If you get a "bad" track it is cumbersome to select /shift-select all the keyframes to delete. Easier is to just turn the clocks off/on.

@Former user

Here I get a result a little better than yours. At least it looks good to me.

Wow, both yours and Kinvemark's videos are very impressive. That's looking like a very positive future for the vp16 tracker.

The @Kinvermark motion tracking is really very good.
