MOTU 828MK3 woes...

Anyone here having success with this Firewire card? My Firewire is TI compatible, I've loaded the latest firmware and drivers, and the Microsoft XP SP2 Firewire fixes. I'm still getting occasional sqealing through the speakers. It's horrible.

Can someone give me hope that this thing will work reliably someday?

What are you doing when the squealing occurs?

The more details the better.

FWIW: I use and develope against the MOTU firewire 896HD everyday, and I have never encountered a squealing problem.

I have been using an 828MK2 with Vegas since vers. 4.0 and have had great success with it. After installing the latest Vegas 8.0, occasionally...very occasionally...when selecting "record" on a track, the unit will produce high level squealing until I restart Vegas. Have never had this occur before, and I cannot seem to duplicate what is occurring just before this happens. Frustrating,a s most of my sessions take place with clients in the room, and now I am hesitant to click "record' without pulling my monitors down each and every time. Rather maddening, actually. Heaven forbid a talent should be in the booth with headphones on when this happens.

I've had something similar with V8 (early) and MOTU 24i (ASIO) with PCI-324.

Only happened twice and assumed it was some 'external influence'. Sounded like a 2-stroke lawnmower on speed ....

I purchased one of these and had a hell of a time trying to get it to work. It was a bizarre piece of equipment. The manual stated it was firewire plug and play. However, I couldn't get it to work unless I powered it on and it was connected prior to powering my computer on. WTF??? I think I spent a couple hours learning on my own that I had to do this in order to update the flash rom or even use it within Windows. I couldn't install all of the drivers for it for reasons unknown to me. That will be the last piece of MOTU gear I ever purchase.

I returned it and ordered an RME Fireface 800 instead. After learning how to operate it, it has been flawless for me. It's an amazing piece of equipment considering how long it has been out.
