Mouse wheel inoperative

Trying out some of the shortcuts listed in the VMS9 Help file I find that my mouse wheel does not work. I have the Microsoft Comfort Optical Mouse 3000 - my system specs are in my profile and Win7 says the driver is current. The mouse button works to set the mouse into an auto-scroll mode but moving the wheel has no effect, even with the various modifier key combinations.

The wheel works fine with Microsoft Office 2007 apps, with IE8, Firefox 3.6.3. There is one other app this mouse has a problem with and that is the email client Incredimail. With a long message open I can use the scroll wheel but the wheel button does not work, no matter how I assign the function.

I have just started looking for clues in solving this problem. Does anyone have a similar problem or have you heard of such a problem?

Once you are in "auto scroll" mode you move the mouse .. not the wheel.

Auto-scroll is assigned to the wheel-button in the mouse driver application and works in VMS9P but the scroll wheel does not work. If I try to use the scroll wheel in auto-scroll mode it leaves auto-scroll mode - the expected result.

I think VMS9P knows the mouse is sending commands because while the timeline has focus the cursor slowly blinks, continuously but while the scroll wheel is being rotated the cursor stops blinking. I searched for options in VMS9P that might affect this but didn't find anything.

The odd thing is that in my email app IncrediMail the scroll wheel works while auto-scroll does not. In fact Incredimail does not respond to any assignment for the scroll-wheel button. Strange.

After my original posting here I substituted two older Microsoft mice on my system, both USB and PS/2, with the same results.

In addition, I just checked for and installed the latest mouse driver.This mouse driver was not available a couple of weeks ago. Same results.

Summary:
All applications so far support the mouse wheel except VMS9P.
All applications so far support the mouse wheel-button except Incredimail.
