Mouse Wheel Zooming

Ok, I just upgraded to a Quad with Vista, and I was using a Core 2 Duo with XP.

So far things are going ok, but I can't figure out why I can't zoom in and out of the timeline anymore. I've updated my mouse software and tried to adjust the settings, but nothing is working.

I can't believe how convenient it is to zoom in and out that way, especially when you can't do it anymore.

Hmm... works fine on my quad Vista 64. Does your wheel work with other apps (e.g., IE browser)?

BTW, I'm with you re how useful the wheel zoom is in Vegas. I really miss it when I go over to After Effects, or other video tools.

Yes, the zooming and many other little features make Vegas one the the easiest and quickest ways to edit.

Which mouse do you have? Mine's an older Microsoft Intellimouse. After searching the forum, it seems this is a common problem with Vista 64 and some Microsoft mice. I LOVE the feel of my mouse, but if it's not going to work to it's potential, I guess I'll have to get something else.

Blink's Logitech mouse in a similar thread looked sweet. But their wireless performance is somewhat spotty.

I'm using the Dell usb mouse that came with my i7. I use it with both my i7 and a laptop through a kvm.

I have the same problem I have the Microsoft natural laser 6000 and in order to get the timeline to zoom you have to ZING the wheel, try that move it really fast and you will see the timeline zoom.
I put a ticket in on it and it went all the way to the enginering dept. the write back that it is a Microsoft driver problem. I never had the problem in XP only when I went to Vista 64 and now Windows 7 64
( and by the way sony will not support Vegas 8 in any 64 bit OS )
I plug in my old plain Logitech mouse and it works fine but kills my wrist.

Anyway try the zing thing and let me know if that works.

I have Vista Ultimate 64 bit and a crummy $10.00 Microsoft laser wheel mouse and it works perfect. Didn't have to do anything for installation as Vista handled everything.

Thanks for the info, folks. I tried really zinging it, and it doesn't do anything. I'll get a Logitech mouse today and see if that helps. I'm WAY too spoiled with that scroll wheel zoom.

M$ Wireless Intellemouse here. Same problems... it only works when you scroll it really hard, which is tough on precision.

Funny thing was, I put in a ticked with Sony a month or so back and they FLATLY said they don't support mice, so you getting to an engineer speaks well to your (Editguy) relationship with them or poorly to mine.

I ended up getting the Logitech MX Revolution. It's nice, and I got it for half price at New Egg ($49).

It feels ok, but I still prefer the way the MS mouse felt in the hand. It was perfect.

Effectively, I had same problem on Vista 32 bit.
This is due to some microsoft mouses. I change to logitech... Since : no problems !
