MOV Files

Currently I use VMS10 Platinum.
I have tried editing some Canon camera MOV Files. I can pick them up directly from the VMS Explorer window and they add into my project easily. They play both sound and picture fine and can be edited just like AVC and AC-3 files. (The MOV files also play OK in Windows Media Player. However, after I have added maybe 10 or more few clips into my project, VMS10 starts to run erratically and becomes unusable. Runs out of usable memory? I think I should convert the MOV files to a format that VMS10 is happy with, but I don't know the best way to do this. Any advice appreciated.

It depends on what model of Canon camera your video is coming from.

But if it's coming from a typical under $400 still camera, most likely those MOVs are using the MJPEG codec, which isn't the easiest codec for most video editors to edit.

What model of camcorder or camera is it from and what format and resolution is it?

You can try Handbrake (a free down load program - uses MP4 mostly).

Try fixing your Preview first.
-- "Match Media Settings" (It's an icon in Project properties)
-- Preview at Preview/Auto
-- "Scale to fit Preview" OFF
-- "Simulate Device aspect" OFF
-- "Adjust Source to match output" OFF
-- "Change Source Media" OFF

It is a Canon Rebel T4i / EOS 650d.
I seem to be able to add in clips and edit them into my project with no difficulty. Problems build up as the number of clips increases to 10 +

I had exactly the same problem with .MOV files from my Canon Ixus 110 IS compact camera. Once I'd added about ten 720p HD clips, VMS 10 Platinum would crash.

As D7K advises, I used Handbrake to convert them to MP4. That cured the problem - at the expense of taking up twice as much hard disk space!

This seems to be a common problem with VMS 10 and Canon MOV files. Does anybody know if it's cured in MS 12?

Did you use Match Media Settings, as musicvid recommended above?

I didn't get a lot of progress with Match Media Settings, just error messages. So I decided to download VMS12 W7 64 bit. This version seems to have made all the difference. Can add MOV files easily, edit them and no real glitches or crashes. Finger crossed as I build my project!

I went to MSP 12 and the problem is still there. Haven't yet tried handbrake or the other suggestions. My .mov files are from an iPhone 5. Frankly, it looks like a buffer overflow bug.
