.MOV sound no video

CorTed wrote on 10/18/2008, 12:02 PM
I have done some search on the forum, but not found the answer.
I received a DVD with a various .mov (quicktime) files.
When I drop them them on the 8.0c timeline all I get is 2 channels of sound?
I have quicktime installed. Am I missing some codec?
Can someone tell me how to import these .mov onto the Vegas timeline.

TIA

Ted

You can open them in QT to determine what codec they are using. Even if you don't have the right codec installed it should tell you which it is.

Well, I found out that the format is m2v1. with a MOV extension
From what I can gather this is a wrapper produced by iMovie on the
Mac, and can not be read within windows.
I have searhed the net, but have not fiound a codec, or utility that can convert it to an editable format for Vegas.
Anybody ran into this and found a workaround?

Install the latest version of QuickTime, 7.5. 7.2 will give the exact same symptoms as you describe when you drop the mov on the timeline...You get the audio waveform, but no video Upgrading to 7.5 fixes it and allows you to see the video.

A quick note, on my system, when I told QuickTime Pro to check for updates, it said I was fully up to date, and did no update routine...In reality, I wasn't. Downloaded 7.5 manually and installed it, and it solved the problem.
