Moved m2t files are now not accessible! Help!

I was moving my m2t files I captured into a new folder on the same drive, then when I tried to open them into Vegas, it tells me that I don't have access to these files. Then I explore that folder and try to play the raw files in nero, and it is not showing that they even exist. Next step was to try to move them out of the folder I had put them in and back where they were, then it tells me I have no access to do this. So they are stuck in this folder and unusable. How do I get to my files????? Where the hell did they go??? I can see them and see how big the file is, but I can't touch the damn things. I've tried everything to get them back. Has this happened to anyone else? What do I do?

Are you sure you actually MOVED them and didn't by accident create a shortcut link for them instead? Do they have a shortcut arrow on them?

Right click on them and bring up the file properties and list them.

Nope, just moved them, there's no shortcut link for them, and they are removed from their original place. The error message I'm getting for them when I try to move them again is

"Cannot move 'file': Access is denied. Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use".

Well, the drive is not full, it shouldn't be write protected, I don't even know where to go to write protect, and I've rebooted three times to make sure the file is definitely NOT currently in use.

I had other m2t files that i captured at the same time but I didn't move those and they work just fine.

Check "properties" of the moved files.

I wish Vegas as a little more flexible on this frstrating issue. Try this: open your project - then open the folder where your native files are located and drag one of the files into the timeline. Once its back in the project it should be available again in the media manager...

The error message Vegas gave you was telling you that some other program or process was using those files and that any other use was temporarily locked out.

Just do a reboot and then see if you can gain access to them. Then you can try to repeat your steps and see just where you lost control of them.

Incidentally, Vegas gives the option of releasing files when the focus of the PC is not on Vegas. It's a checkbox in the Options menu.
