First thing to try is rename the file extension from .mod to .mpg
If that doesn't work, you may need to convert it.

that doesn't seem to be working (or I'm not able to do it) so, how to convert?

There are many tutorials on the internet to show you how to change a file extension in your version of Windows. As I implied, that is no promise the file will play in Vegas, but doing it correctly is the first thing to try, for many good reasons. So don't give up until you are sure you have correctly changed the file extension from .mod to .mpg

Super by Erightsoft is the converter of choice for many here. However, I sense you may have trouble making sense of the interface, which is quite detailed. Something along the lines of Format Factory or another simple ffmpeg frontend may be more suitable.

You would want to try a straight remux to the .mpg wrapper first before re-encoding, which would be a last resort.

If you could upload a sample of your actual .mod media to Mediafire, then someone might have time to download it and give you some more explicit direction.

Good luck!
