Do we even know what this Magic Bullet plug-in does?

Magic Bullet is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. So far it's only for After Effects. DVFilm Maker and the Film Effects in Vegas are not nearly as good.

I guess you could do some of the color correction in Vegas, but the presets in Magic Bullet are incredible.

"DVFilm Maker and the Film Effects in Vegas are not nearly as good."

No offense to anyone intended, but the reason it's a plugin, is that it does it's specialized thing better then anything included in *any* NLE. Also, the process may not work at this stage of development (or ever) in an NLE.

I beta tested Magic Bullet for Windows and it is a very powerful program---unfortunately it is very expensive and if you aren't REAL patient with renders, then you probably don't want to go there--It has a bunch of modules--

Indie FX puts out a miniDV tape with a lot of FX clips on it -- including film grain, damage and video grunge. It takes awhile to slug out each clip from a capture, but I've had a lot of fun using them as overlays, etc.

Hey, I have a Panasonic DVX100 that shoots true progressive-scan 24p (no deinterlacing software needed exc. for film transfer) and 'cinema-gamma' (anti-clipping colors + filmic contrast) by simply switching on two camera settings; that and the new FCP-style color correctors of VV4 (and the broadcast-safe settings--and the four Avid-style virtual monitors) makes the temptation to save myself $1,700 (cost of MagBul and AE which it requires), well, irresistible. To marry VV4 with the DVX100 is a low-budget filmmaker's dream :)

I think some of the color correction stuff in Magic Bullet would be very hard or impossible to do in Vegas. I'd love to be proven wrong though! For example, the "Epic" look that they have matched from North by Northwest and The Searchers (Technicolor). Anyone up for the challenge of doing that in Vegas? :-)

I'd like to know what exactly the Magic Bullet is correcting. If they are just color correcting then it should be possible in Vegas, I would think. If they are altering frame rates and possibly doing some smoothing in certain color bands, then that could be a much more complicated process.

I don't remember seeing a before after shot on their web site.

Guys this all sounds great but the basic question has still not been answered, what can be done with Vegas to make it look more like film.

Any help appreciated!
