movie file not being saved

I apologize if this is a totally newbie question, but I'm completely baffled. All I want to do is trim some blank video out of a .MOV file. I import the file, drag it to the timeline, split the events to isolate the blank video and deleted it, group the events together, and use either Render As... or Make Movie to create a new .MOV file. But no .MOV file is created. I just get a file named <new name>.MOV.SFL, and a file named <original name>.MOV.SFK. The original file is about 140 MB. The .SFL file is 30 bytes long and the SFK file is about 74K. Obviously, the movie isn't in either one. I assume they contain some sort of meta information used to create a DVD.

What am I missing here?

Export differently, it doesn't have to be MOV. MP4 is just as compatible. http://eugenia.queru.com/2007/11/09/exporting-with-vegas-for-vimeo-hd/

That worked. Thanks!

So why is .MOV one of the choices if it can't export in that format?

It can, but you probably didn't choose the right codec. MOV, like AVI, are containers, not codecs.
