Movie Studio 12 and Windows10 Issues

I have has problems with Movie Studio since installing Windows 10. The problem was highlighted on a previous post which was largely resolved by using the compatibility troubleshooter. However, I have now moved to a new computer with a higher spec that will allow me to edit HD footage. A new problem has arisen with the Help files. As soon as I select a topic, the whole program freezes - not just the Help; the entire Movie Studio program.

I am not sure of it's relevancy, but on my old laptop, Movie Studio 12 is build 334 and on my new laptop it is now build 1184. I guess that this upgrade was offered when I loaded the program into the new pc. Until everything is working well on the new machine I cannot afford to uninstall it from my old one.

What are the hardware and operating system specs of your new computer? Have you run Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragment on the new computer since setting it up?

Also, what do you mean by "I cannot afford to uninstall it from my old one."?

The laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L70-C-12H with Intel I7-5500U 2.40GHz Processor, 8.00Gb Ram, 64-Bit Operating System, x64-based processor.

Windows 8.1 installed upgraded to Windows 10 Home.

No I have not used Disk Cleanup or Disk Defragment yet.

I cannot afford to uninstall Movie Studio 12 from my old computer until it works on my new one otherwise I should be left with a programme without the help files. I have to use the new computer for editing my camera footage which is now HD. The old computer only has 4Gb RAM and does not cope too well with it.

Since my reply to you Steve, I have been looking at the cost of upgrading to Movie Studio Platinum 13, and it appears to be very reasonably priced. (I am UK based).

If I can be assured that there are no Windows 10 issues, this may be the way to go that will solve my current problem, On both computers I am using the Windows 7 compatibility facility.

There may also be other advantages to an upgrade to version 13; perhaps you would like to comment? I have your book on the Guide to Platinum 12.

I CAN NOW REPORT THAT INEXPLICABLY - MY PROBLEM NO LONGER EXISTS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHY THIS HAS HAPPENED.

I DID FIND A NEW ROUTE TO THE HELP FILE BY OPENING UP ONE OF THE TUTORIALS AND FOUND A WAY OF DISPLAYING THE HELP FILE THAT WAY, BUT IN ANY EVENT THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAVE CLEARED ITSELF.

I WON'T HAVE TO UPGRADE TO VERSION 13 I AM PLEASED TO SAY. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ, MOUSE USERS, LIKE MYSELF, HAVE BEEN RELEGATED IN FAVOUR OF TOUCH SCREEN USERS.

Were there any Win10 updates installed on your PC recently?

I've noticed, in the past that Win updates would cause weird behavior in some apps only to behave after other Win updates were applied.

Interestingly I've just hit this Help Screen issue after installing MS12 Platinum suite on a Win 10 64 bit machine. The hang up occurs when you select an item in the Help Screen index list that should open another small window with a list to select from.

I've got around it by opening the Help screen from outside MS12 with a shortcut to the MovieStudio120.chm file. Opening this even while MS12 is open does not cause problems and the Help screens work as intended.
