Movie studio 16 is slow when I minimise and maximise the program

I just got a trial version of movie studio 16. And it is very slow. It seems to work well enough when I am editing. But if I minimise it and open a web browser to search something and then go back to movie studio, it has a egg timer as the mouse icon and will not let me work on the project for 5-10 seconds.

Is there a fix for this?

Try Options/Preferences/ and in the General Tab untick "Close media files when not the active application". The fourth box from the top.
