Movie Studio 17.0 can't use Sound Forge Pro 10.0?

Bob-Staghorn wrote on 5/28/2021, 12:18 AM

My standard workflow when using Movie Studio Platinum 15.0 was to edit the audio in Sound Forge Pro 10.0 using the "Open copy in Audio Editor" found in right click menu - it worked great for what I do. Last week I upgraded to Movie Studio Platinum 17.0 and I can't open Sound Forge Pro from Movie Studio anymore - just gives me an error message: "The specified audio editor can not be opened C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Sound Forge Pro 10.0\Forge100.exe"

I have checked - that is definitely the exe file for Sound Forge Pro, and I have tried setting the compatibility to either Windows 7 or Windows 8 with no change. Sound Forge Pro 10.0 is working fine on it's own, and I can open the audio files that Movie Studio 17 creates, but I can't get it to open Sound Forge Pro 10.0 on it's own (like Movie Studio 15.0 did.)

Does anyone know why this is?

Given that its fresh install of a new program, have you checked Options/Preferences/Audio (tab) to make sure that the 'Preferred Audio Editor' field has been linked to the Sound Forge Pro 10 .exe file?

Thanks, good suggestion (checking Options/Preferences/Audio (tab)) - but I have checked "Preferred Audio Editor" field numerous times - that doesn't seem to be the problem.

I have also tried a fresh install of Sound Forge Pro 10.0 - it didn't help.

Strange. Maybe it's a Windows permission problem? Try creating a shortcut to the Forge100.exe file, place it somewhere outside of program folders and link to that.

Won't let me link to a shortcut. I tried editing the permissions, but no luck. I see that I have various programs and plugins scattered around various folders - maybe that's the problem. Maybe I'll delete everything and download everything fresh from the Magix website and see if I can get them working together.
