Movie Studio 3.0 Playback Problem

I have three problems (I think they are all related)

Part 1:
When I click play on the transport toolbar i get an error...

An error has occurred while starting playback.
An invalid device was specified.

The details read:
The playback device does not support the current output format

Part 2:
When I save a project's properties, I get this message:

Warning: one or more audio playback devices does not support the current sample rate ard/or bit-depth.
An invalid device was specified.

The details read:

does not support 44,100 Hz at 16 bits.
Preview Port () does not support 44,100 Hz at 16 bits.

Part 3:
Movie Studio also crashes when I click the play button in the media pool frame. This error reads:

Title: Sbvfact30
Message: The program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.
Details:
SBVFACT30 caused an invalid page fault in

Version and Build: 3.0 Build 78
Processor Speed: P3 866
Sound Card: Sound Blaster Live

I sent the above message to tech support and this is the reply I received:

"Thanks for writing. Part 1 and Part 2 may be caused by your sound card not being able to playback audio at the given playback settings (sampling rate, bit depth). If you are using a Sound Blaster card, those cards only support 48Khz playback rates. The default for our software would be 44.1Khz. If you change this in the Project Settings, it should work for playback. Part 3 of your question could also be a by product of the wrong sampling rate selected, see if it goes away when you selects the proper 48K. If it doesn't, update the drivers. "

Does anyone know how to change the playback rate in the project settings as he suggests?

Thanks in advance, (sorry about the long post)

Change the default rate:

[options], then holding the shift key down, hit [preferences]. Then click on the [internal] tab. Hundreds of default settings are listed. Approximately 45 lines from the top, you will see "Default Sample Rate: 44,100" Change that to 48,000.

WARNING: You are in the undocumented internal settings menu. Messing around in there can cause the whole program to die. Remember what you changed the setting from, as if that doesn't work, you will have to change it back.

Let us know if it worked.

Gerry,

Thanks for taking the time to help.

Changing the sample rate didn't seem to work so I changed it back.

Here is what finally did the trick: (If someone else has the same problem)
I completely uninstalled and removed my sound card. (Sound Blaster Live!) This seemed to clear up the errors.

I reinstalled the card in a different slot and insalled the latest drivers from Creative's web site. Still no errors in Movie Studio, but no sound at all on computer.

I reinstalled the original (older) drivers and now everything works.

Thanks Again,
Dan
