Movie Studio 9 Platinum vs. Vegas Pro 8

I have a Canon HF100 camcorder and want to do simple video editing of AVCHD home movie files, burn them to DVD, etc.

Are there any good reasons for me to go with Vegas Pro? I have downloaded trial versions of both software packages and found Movie Studio Platinum much simpler to use.

Thanks for any advice or feedback on this.

No, you don't need Vegas Pro. Stay with Platinum 9.

I'll agree that VMS 9 is likely the better choice to start with, especially financially. What I don't understand is your comment about VMS being "much simpler to use." Both packages have a virtually identical interface, just that Vegas Pro has a more features. Can you give some specifics on what you found simpler in VMS? I've used VMS for years, and have stared using Vegas Pro only this year, and find no difference in ease of usage.

From what I understand, yes, the rendering speeds are the same with the Studio and Pro versions, they use the same engine.

But now that you mention it, Studio 9 MAY even be somewhat faster than Pro 8. It is newer, and I'd think that once Pro 9 comes out, it would use basically the same core engine as Studio 9, with of course all the extra goodies that Pro offers.

As far as render speed, that will be much more a function of the speed of your CPU than which version of the software you are using. In other words, that wouldn't be a reason to jump up to Pro.
