Movie studio crashes

I have Movie Studio Version 8 and have a problem with persistent crashes and freezing during the editing process. I am using some mixed file formats which might be the problem. Or the Movie Studio CD could be corrupted.

One addtional problem is when I use the "make movie" option which crashes.after about five minutes.

That's a relatively old version of the program so there could be a number of issues -- particularly if you are running it on an operating system like Windows 7 64-bit.

It could be that your hard drive lacks work space or that it's full of temp files or fragmented. It could be that your operating system needs some updating and tuning.

Or it could certainly be a problem with your mixed formats.

But that's easy to troubleshoot. Do you have DV-AVI video captured over FireWire from a miniDV camcorder? This is the ideal format for editing on a PC. Try creating a project for DV footage and doing a test run using only DV-AVIs.

If the program stabilizes, you know that the problem is your mixed footage. If the program is still unstable , you know the problem is either on your system or with this older version of Vegas Movie Studio. (Version 11 is a vast improvement, by the way -- well, worth the investment, particularly if you edit a lot of hi-def and AVCHD video.)
