Hi.
well, maybe there is a different way to do it. but when i want to make the best stills, what i do it this.

i first make an uncompressed, non-interlaced (progressive scan) dv file of only bits and pieces on the timeline of my possible choices for still images. just leave a fraction of a second of the clip where you may need a still, otherwise if you render the whole timeline as uncompressed, you will have a very very large humongous file! then, pull your new progressive dv clip to the timeline. pick the frame you want. right click on the view screen, choose the option..display at project size. click the icon above the view screen...save timeline snapshot to file. when prompted for where to save the file, choose the PNG format, not the JPG. save the still.

i then take the still to Adobe Elements where i enhance it and make it nicer. i have gotten nice results like this.

i once did several tests, and found that a still image from a progressive file is much nicer than one from an interlaced one. you wont see all the jagged lines that you get from an interlaced.

good luck,

Joe,

It's been two months since you wrote this, so I'm very late saying thanks. I was hoping I could just deinterlace in PSP8, but I'm not happy with my stills so I'm going to try your method. Thanks again.
