Movie Studio Platinum 13 no longer crashing

Most of the time MSP13 has been behaving nicely. Today, while rendering a 5-minute video, it crashed no fewer than 6 times, taking the PC down with it twice. Often during rendering my PC puts up a message saying that the CPU temperature is over 70 degrees C, which was my clue as to what was going on.

The PC was hand-built (by someone else) and has an Asus motherboard. Asus AI Suite II is installed so I had a hunt around and found the EPU tool which allowed me to switch from High Performance to Max Power Saving. MSP13 now renders without crashing and I can switch back to High Performance for more intensive but less heat-sensitive tasks.

I'm posting this because a lot of people run Asus PCs and AI Suite is either pre-installed or available free of charge. I hope this post eases someone's misery some time down the line.

Thanks for posting. Heat issues are a major problem with many systems.

One of the first things you might consider is to open your case and blow/vacuum anything that has dust on or in it. Then check your CPU cooler. If it is the standard fan, you might consider upgrading to a basic liquid cooler or better heat-sink/fan combination.

You may just need to renew your thermal paste, but it would be well worth it to upgrade your cooling at the same time. Fifty bucks spent on cooling can greatly extend your computer's comfort level!

If you don't feel comfortable working inside your system, a computer store can do all of the above for a hundred dollars... it's cheap insurance against early system failure.

Hope this helps.
