Movie Studio won't open my project

Chicago Charlie wrote on 4/14/2015, 10:41 PM
I've been working on a huge project in sony movie studio 13 platinum, and for some reason it now freezes when i open the project at 58%. This isn't me rendering a movie, but just opening the file. I have a feeling it has something to do with this Logitech G930 bluetooth headset I just installed and set to my default audio source, but I can't figure out how to open the file at all. If anybody has any suggestions, I'd be really thankful.

Yeeepp. Just got a runtime error. Am I totally out of luck?

Try uninstalling (or disabling) the driver for the bluetooth headset using Windows Device Manager.

Yea, I just deleted the Logitech program software, drivers, headset. The file still freezes at 58% when trying to open. I've noticed that other older files still open, so maybe some type of corruption has occurred.

I've been having the same issue the past few days and have narrowed it down to when I "Insert Text Media"

It uses Sony Titles and Text, everytime I try it, even with the sample font, I save and when I try to load the save file it just hangs around 50%-60% area.

I am having exactly the same problem and tested it with Titles & Text. As soon as I added text or titles to a project it holds up.

Hope Sony resolve this real soon!

Charlie,

It sounds as if you may have corrupt media or a corrupt project at the 58% point. If you know what media might be around the mid-point of your project, you might try moving that media so Movie Studio can't find it. You'll be given the option of finding the media or leaving it offline and opening the project anyway.

With luck, your project will open if you leave out the missing media.

On the other hand, if you add the media one event at a time you should find out exactly what is causing your problem. In any case, if you get the project to open, immediately save your open project with a new name. Then you could re-build the project while testing to determine what media was causing the problem.

To the other posters with the text problem. This is unlikely to be a Sony bug or many many people would be having the problem. So, it is likely a fault with you systems. Perhaps a bad video driver or conflict of some sort, which you'll have to work out on a case by case basis. It's really difficult to make suggestions on this sort of situation.

In my case it is the title/text that is causing the problem. I can open projects without title/text but not any projects that have titles/text, so I do not agree with your analysis.

I have asked Sony to investigate it. I only started having problems after the latest Windows 7 update a couple of nights ago.

I'm having the exact same issue and also strangely enough have a logitech G930 however it's not recently installed, i've had it a while. Also literally an hour ago I was working on a project and it opened fine, it was only when I tried opening another that they all just stopped loading past x%

Managed to get the software working. Others may be interested in my experience.

My problem was not the title/text addition to the time line. The problem appeared to be NewBlueFX transitions with the latest display diver update. When I rolled back to the previous display driver the software functioned fine, so that is where I am at the moment.

Using the updated version of Windows 7 Home Premium, the display adapter is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 and the rolled back version of the driver is 9.18.13.4788.

Hope that info is useful for someone

Turns out it was a driver issue, and had nothing to do with my headset (although that headset is a bit buggy for me). I updated my Nvidia drivers, and the latest one definitely had some compatibility issues with something in Sony Movie Studio 13. Try and rollback your drivers if you're having this problem with an Nvidia graphics card. Thanks for all the help everyone, I really appreciate it.

Yep that fixed it for me too. Bit annoying considering now GTA V is dropping frames like mad and just running poorly in comparison. So i hope either Nvidia or Sony come out with an update soon. Having said that I highly doubt Sony will do anything any time soon.

I am having similar problems. I can open my file if I use "open", but not if I select it from the "recents" list. The program stops responding. It worked fine for years, but several months ago it stopped working - so I suspect something changed on my system, but I don't know what.

I reinstalled VMS 12 and it opened a file on the first attempt, but not after that. I then updated my display driver and got the same result - it worked the first time, but never again.

Any suggestions on what else to try?

It's happening again....I didn't use any NewBlue stuff or Titles, so the issue must be text...really annoying.

I couldn't rollback my drivers so I had to go to the Nvidia website and download the previous driver again. So this problem happens at the very least with any text media generator and also most likely with titles and Newblue stuff. It worked yet again when I went with a previous driver. Hope this gets sorted out soon. I would hate to have to keep deleting and reinstalling drivers every time I want to make a video.
