Hey guys,

Bought Vegas movie studio and i love it, and im currently running a dual core 2 ghz and 2 gig of fast(ish) ram and 2 SATA hard disks.

My question is realated to how long should i expect a compression should take..

I have imported about 10 minuets of 1080i HD movie from my sony camera, and when i goto "make movie" im selecting the wmv 4.8meg widescreen option.. this takes ages!! i rekon it took about 2-3 hours to compress 10 minuets of movie Does this sound correct? it doesnt make any difference using a different option either..

It would take soooo long to do 90 minuets! to me this doesnt sound right...

also both CPU core's are working 100% too..

Any info would be greatly apreciated..

Yes, it sounds correct. HD requires a lot of time to encode as it requires a ton of CPU time. Moreover, the WMV encoder that Vegas uses is not a very fast encoder to begin with, but you have no alternative because Vegas Platinum doesn't have another codec for delivery-grade usages. Vegas Pro has two h.264 encoders which are faster than the WMV one -- but don't expect miracles, it would still be slow to encode.

As for the "90 minutes", I suppose you mean DVD exporting? This would be faster than WMV, not only because the mpeg2 encoder is faster, but also because it exports in a smaller resolution, which is faster than HD.

Hey,
Thanks for the fast reply!!! i just needed confirmation on this.. i thought that my CPU was bottlnecking and to be honest it probably is.. ill buy a 3.8 gig dual core im sure that will help.

So realy, im looking at leaving the PC on over night to encode movies! ..
:)

thanks again!
