MovieStudio - Is it really worth the money?

Hi All,

I am a VF 2.0 user and recently noticed that VF have been replaced by MovieStudio. Been to almost all the GOOD review about MovieStudio and I was wondering - Is it really worth the money to upgrade?

I have some problems with VF (although I give the product TWO THUMBS UP for the best features packed and stable software, so far) and I never even had any problem getting the support I needed either from this forum or SoFo.

I found VF 2.0 lacking in this aspect:

1- No Reverse Playing - e.g. to create funny scene
2- No Superimpose - e.g. to create superman flying scene
3- Cannot import common WMV/ASF files
4- MPEG-2 is a separate deal - more money

I don't claim to be an expert user of VF (I even have problem creating the marker), probably VF already have all the features and I just don't know how.

I have read the review website but just couldn't make up my mind. Appreciate if anyone can help me point out the extra features that MovieStudio have that would really make my day.

tq, nism

I'm not sure about #3.

#1 still no, you need Vegas for that.

But, #2 and #4 are now included in Movie Studio.

For only $30 for the upgrade (you would have paid that much to get MPEG-2 added to VF2) you get the whole thing. If i were still a VideoFactory user i would jump on it!

I have to agree that the upgrade is definitely worth it. As Kelly said, for the price of the MPEG2 encoder alone you get chroma key (that superman effect) along with Border, Black Restore, Deform, Lens Flare, Light Rays, Linear Blur, Mirror, Quick Blur, Radial Blur, and Threshold. New transitions like Page Peel, Page Roll, Venetian Blinds. AND a third (3rd) video track. So if you’re into superimposing, you now have three tracks to put video on. This alone is worth $30 IMHO and is one of the reason I upgraded to Vegas. ($199 at the time just to get another track for overlays and chroma key) The upgrade is well worth the $30 without even talking about the ability to make DVD’s.

If you are asking if you can make chapter points with the MyDVD package that comes with MovieStudio, the answer is no. You should probably plan to purchase a better DVD package. Even something as simple as Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2 ($45) is way better than MyDVD.
