how do i need to set up the grid and ruler to allow me to easily move choruses and refrains around in a song and have the voice tracks actually match up with the song???? this is so frustrating and im sure there is an easy way to do it...
First you have to set the BPM correctly in File > Properties > Ruler.
Then right click on the ruler in the timeline and select "Measures & Beats".
If you already have audio and don't know the BPM you will have to calculate it. An easy method is to use Acid's Beat Mapper or you can calculate it by using this formula;
In Sound Forge select as exactly as possible by listening 1 measure of audio > Edit > Trim/Crop > right click on the selected audio > Properties > General tab, record the number of samples.
In Cakewalk apps. using "Audio View", (Sonar just zoom in on the audio), select as exactly as possible by listening 1 measure of audio > Right-click > Event Properties, Duration; (xxxxxxx) Samples.
Multiply the number of samples per second by the number of seconds in a minute then multiply that by the number of beats in the selection, then divide that number by the number of samples in the selected audio.
Let's use 44.1kHz (sample rate) and 4 beats per measure the equation would be;
44100 (sample rate) x 60 (seconds/minute) x 4 (Beats/measure) = 10584000 divided by (number of samples in selected audio) = BPM
From there all the measures will line up correctly and you can set markers or regions for verses, choruses etc.
thanks a lot, after looking around yesterday i finally found this option...it's been years that i've been aligning this shit from ear...but good lookin out though!
