Moving clips in the timeline

I have found that I need to insert a video clip at the start of the time line but have found that I need to move the whole project along to make room. The problem is that I have inserted a volume envolope on two of the audio tracks and I find it does not move along with the project.
Is this the norm and should I have started the project further down the timeline for just in case I need to insert a video clip at a later date?

Just add the clip and let ripple edit move everything.

Go to Insert - Time

Start a new project, add the new file, and then add the other VEG file to the timeline (i.e. nested VEGs).

etc...

Multiple ways to accomplish this task.
