Moving envelope on the timeline

kevgl wrote on 12/27/2003, 9:31 PM
I've got a 6 hour project here that I was about to dump to tape only to find that the audio envelopes are out of sync - Argghh!

I've got a few earlier versions of the edit, but am hoping I can shuffle the envelopes back into sync which would be quicker than going back a few edit versions.

I've tried going to envelope edit only and selecting all points but when I try to move the envelope, only the one point I'm moving goes.

I'm hoping I can move the envelope only to the right of the cursor as well (in case I have some shifts that aren't uniform across the timeline.

Anyone got an idea on this one?

Cheers

Can you open another copy of the veg, copy the envelopes, and paste them into the new version at a different starting point, offset by however far off they are in the new version? This should work, but it would depend on if the whole project is off, or if only parts of the envelopes are off.
6 hours? How you planning to print/display that?

Hi Spot

I haven't tried that yet, was hoping I could just shift the envelopes (can't for the life of me think why they are out - they've been right for months).

The project is about 6 1/2 hours long, of which it will be dumped to 4 MiniDVs
Client just wants it on VHS so I'll use 2 pairs of 120 minutes DVs to dump to 2x4 hour VHS tapes - messy, but I can't dump to anything longer than the 2 hour tape ....

Cheers

Actually - forget that, I just checked the ealrier saves and the envelopes are rooted at the start of the project from way back.

This was my first Vegas project (one that has dragged out for months) so I guess I slipped an event somewhere early in the piece without noticing the envelope move. I still find that weird though, coz I went back and spot checked the project not that long ago. Guess I must have missed them by chance.

Only other alternative is to clear the envelopes and rejig them from scratch .... joy.

Cheers

You were on the right track with the envelope edit tool. Create a loop region that spans all the envelope points you want to move. Then move them. They will all move together.

I would find the portion and clip where the A/V it is out of sync and cut it.
Put at the end of timeline and render. The Vegas doing good job to align the
A/V. If that will not help then just slide the audio while wathing and listenning.
Doing the whole thing where only a portion is affected does make more time consuming.

Not knowing how far out these are is difficult to trouble shoot.
You could:
Move a region of envelope points as igloo suggests.
turn on ripple and turn off lock envelopes, and insert time to move media to right to match the offset
Turn on ripple/turn on lock envelopes and insert blank time at start of project to move everything right, then turn off lock envelopes, leave ripple on and delete the added time, which would move media left, leaving envelopes to the right.
Manually nudge the points
Copy/cut the envelope points and paste where they belong

Hi guys

Thanks for the replies. Igloo's loop region was the tip I was after, shouldn't be hard to sync it back up again now.

Cheers for that.

Half an hour later and everything is back in sync.

I was sure that Vegas wouldn't let me down here.

Thanks again guys.
