Moving movies around

feldoCT wrote on 12/26/2007, 12:51 PM
Bought HDR-SR5 and using Movie Studio Platinum 8. I want to avoid burning to disks, so I take my events on the camera, edit them on Movie Studio and create a movie that I'd like to show on my HDTV. I want to get the movie that I have created on my computer to my camera's hard drive. I don't seem to be able to do this. Help!

It seems to be a long way to put a edited and rendered video back on the cameras disk when you want do see it - if you have a laptop - maybe even connected to your head-PC by cable or wireless - you can display videos on the TV through the laptop.
I have a permanent ACER aspire mediacenter connected to the TV - this works fine when I render the videos to 1360x768 (the TV's native mode) and set the videocard to this also.
As my wife is pretty unsatisfied with the size of the ACER Aspire I am looking for a second hand MacMini to do the job :-).
One of the newest with a 945/950GM on board videochip should be able to do the job in 1360x768.

Please stop creating new threads about the exact same thing. You already posted a question here: http://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/forums/ShowMessage.asp?MessageID=567913&Replies=1
it was replied, and you could have replied there, instead of creating a brand new thread.

To answer your question AGAIN, VMS doesn't seem to support exporting in AVCHD format that your SR5 requires. So you will have to buy a laptop with a TV-out component capability, or buy an XBoX360 or a Sony PS3 to view your HD files on the HDTV. If you don't like this, give back your SR5 and buy the Canon HV20 which is tape-based. Vegas can write back to tape just fine.

Hi Eugenia

Are you feeling like some kind of Super-moderator in this forum - I mean - how you always have an unkind remark ready for next to nothing - and calling answers from other users, that really just want to give the free time to help others, for silly - and...

I am looking back to the good olde times in this forum when a member or a newbee could make a slight mistake without having to fear an answer written in capital letters.

Let us get the focus back to helping each other. This is a users forum - right ? - and cut the condescending remarks, please.

This is a user forum indeed, but users should also learn from mistakes too. Because they are not alone on this forum. And to learn, someone has to point out (abruptly or not), that mistake. It seems that I am that person because I am not afraid to be abrupt when appropriate. I put quite a lot of time on this forum to help users, so I expect some kind of "thinking twice" before start posting threads one after the other about the same thing.

That user had already made the same question, and I feel that he/she was not making a "mistake" -- which is what made me kinda angry. He/she was just banging on the forum until he/she gets out a solution that will magically happen. Like, if you ask the same question 1000 times, Vegas automagically will get the feature he/she wants. Well, it doesn't work that way. And I, as a helper around here, don't have to pay for it by wasting my time with duplicates.

Hi Eugenia,
After reading your post, I was hoping that some of your comments didn’t come out as you really intended. For instance:

‘I am not afraid to be abrupt when appropriate.’

No, you’re not afraid, as you have demonstrated on many occasions, but my question is when is it appropriate on this board, or anywhere else for that matter, to be abrupt with people? I think a little kindness and understanding would go a long ways here, and abroad.

‘I put quite a lot of time on this forum to help users, so I expect some kind of "thinking twice" before start posting threads one after the other about the same thing.’

Yes, you do put a lot of time and effort into this board (which is appreciated), but so do a lot of other people. Some of us obviously don’t have your wealth of knowledge (but others do), but I believe everyone here tries to make this a better forum, and Vegas a better program in their own way.

‘and I feel that he/she was not making a "mistake" -- which is what made me kinda angry.’

I would hope that no poster here could make you angry by posing a question. Isn’t that what this whole thing is about? About a week ago, someone commented how nice it was that they could ask questions here without the fear of being ‘flamed.’ I know that is the feeling I too used to have here, and God knows, I have asked my share of questions that you, and other gurus here, must have rolled your eyes at. None the less, I always got prompt, helpful, and most importantly non condescending answers. If you feel that a post angers you, maybe the best solution would be to just not respond to that post?

‘And I, as a helper around here, don't have to pay for it by wasting my time with duplicates.’

Again, you aren’t the only ‘helper’ here, and if you feel like someone is wasting your time, don’t respond, unless you are being paid by Sony.

In closing, I would just let you know that I have devoted years of study to Vegas, PhotoShop, and numerous other facets of videography. Having said that, I know that I will never know as much as you have probably forgotten, but if I did, I would be glad to kindly share what I knew with anyone who was interested enough to ask. We may not all be equal in Vegas, but we are all equal in life. Just fellow life travelers doing the best we can. Take care. Cin
