Moving Multiple Events

Hi everyone,

I am trying to move events together down the timeline to insert new video at the beginning of the project. It's a multiple-camera project with four video tracks and one audio track, all of which need to stay locked together now that they've been edited.

When I try to move them, the audio only stays locked to the video it was imported with ... and the other video tracks won't move with the others when I try to move them. I've referred to the manual, but I am obviously missing something (that's quite likely very simple).

What do I need to do to move EVERYthing down the timeline and keep it in place?

Thanks,
Jason Hink

You can hold the CTRL key when selecting events to select multiple events at the same time the same way you can for files in the Windows explorer. Alternately you could insert time using the menu item Insert > Time and that will shift everything on all tracks to the right by the duration you set.

I have a free script on the Sundance Media Group site called SelectEventsFromCursor.js that will select all the events on all the track that are under and to the right of the current cursor position. This could be useful in this situation for moving them together.

If you need more control than that I have script plug-in called Ultimate S that has 51 functions, one of which will allow you very fine control to select events in 9 directions, above, below, and on the current tracks, to the left, under, and to the right of the current cursor position (and any combination of those 6). You can download a fully functional 15-day trial and check it out.

If you are just inserting new media, then turn Ripple Edit on and make sure it is set to All Tracks, Markers, and Regions. Then just drop your new media on the tracks and everything will automatically move to the right together to make room for it.

That’s what’s great about Vegas. There are always multiple ways to accomplish a task.

I am finding it hard to believe that you can't select everything without going through and selecting everything on each time line. The program we use at the station is just a right click and select and then we can move it all right and left and everything stay's where it should. That is everything on all lines.

Vegas can't do this?

Thanks for all replies,

How about "edit-select-all"

Sorry I didn’t realize when you said EVERYthing you mean all the events. I thought it was everything from a given point. Ctrl+A will select all as you have seen. I still think Ripple Edit is easier because you don’t have to know how far to move things. It just makes room automatically as you drop new events.
