When you "Save As", see if there is a checkbox that says "Save media with project"

This is the simplest way to do it, the option is available in Vegas Pro but I don't know about your version.

What i consider the simplest way requires a tiny bit of planning beforehand. I always create a new directory for each project and then save all the assets and .veg files in that directory. That way if you want to back up or move your project, you move that one directory and you're done. It's way better than the "save as with media" option.

If you move/restore to a different directory name then Vegas will complain when you load the project that it can't find the media files. There's an option to browse for replacement media. Use that and point it to the new directory. Once you've selected a replacement for the first file Vegas is smart enough to find all the rest in the same place. This is yet one more good reason to create a specific directory for each project and keep everything in that directory.

The "Save As" solution worked great for me. I guess I was trying to make it too hard.

Thanks for the help.

The way I manage this may of interest to you. Here is an alternative approach that I use: web synchronization.

I use more than one computer for many of my projects. So, i often need to access the projects on different computers. I chose not to carry a separate drive around with me, especially since i travel alot.

I use a web file storage synchronization service to keep my project and assets synchronized across them. Just to be safe, i have the synchronized directories using the same file paths on the different computers, though it does seem to work when i dont.

What these services allow you to do is mark certain directories as "sync'd". Whenever a file is changed on one computer, that change is reflected automatically on the others.

I use Live Mesh, which is free from Microsoft. There are other choices, such as Goodsync, and SugarSync. With Mesh, not only does it sync the files across the HDs on the computers attached to the Mesh, but there is also a web desktop that I can access with any web browser. So, if I am at a friends place and I want to show off one of my videos, i can get it via their web browser.

I've found this very convienient. I have a directory called "AV" which is sync across the two machines. In addition to the project and asset files, i also sync my plugins and other utilities so that i have use of them wherever I am.
