Try using your arrow keys to "scrub" through.

Zoom in to get really precise.

Arrow keys are very nice. The farther you zoom in the smaller the time increment they move. At any zoom level, Alt-arrows move exactly one frame at a time.

If you're really adventurous, you can turn on the scrub rate control for slowly moving through the timeline. This involves changing mystical and cryptic internal preferences, so the standard disclaimer applies:

Making changes to internal preferences can mess up your software installation and neither i nor other forum members nor SONY media software will be responsible for your actions. If you do mess something up you're on your own. However, you can exit the software and then hold down the Ctrl & Shift keys while starting it again to reset

But don't worry, it's not anywhere near as scary as that disclaimer makes it sound. I don't have VideoFactory / Movie Studio on this computer, but you should be able to follow these directions pretty well. Click on Options, then hold the shift key down and choose Preferences. You'll now see a new tab labeled 'Internal'. Click on this tab. There is a search box at the bottom; type in 'rate'. One of the choices is something like playback rate control. It should be pretty obvious when you see it. Change this from False to True. Strongly resist the temptation to fiddle with anything else. Click ok, ok ... and then exit the software. When you start it up again there will be a small yellow triangle on a slider beneath the track headers. You can use this slider to go forwards & backwards through the video slowly or up to twice normal speed. You'll also hear the sound while using it. You can slide this control back and forth as necessary to find just the right spot.

Is there any equivilent to the Vegas JKL keys in Screenblast?

Sounds like something I would like. I am using version 3.0a Build 100 and the only RATE settings with a TRUE/FALSE are:

Trimmer Uses Media Fram Rate - TRUE

Limit Variable Frame Rate to Frames - FALSE

Would it be the second one?

Hmmm. Neither of those sounds right. Try looking for 'scrub' or 'show'. I'll check for sure when i get home in 3 hours or so.

Scrubbing on the timeline may also come in handy:

1. In timeline (ie when cursor is blinking) position the mouse pointer over the cursor and click Ctrl. You know you've got it right when the pointer changes to a speaker icon with <---> underneath it.
2. Left click the mouse and the icon changes to larger arrows.
3. Drag the mouse left or right to scrub the timeline.

Thanks. Now I have two ways to do it.
