If you just want a straight tunnel, ParticleIllusion SE has an emitter that will do this and a whole lot more (it’s a full blown particle generator). Check out the demo of the Cloud Swirl In emitter on the home page. You can get the full version of ParticleIllution SE 2.0 for free by ordering a backissue of Digi Magazine #64.

I’ve also used Cinema 4D to make an effect where you are traveling through a tunnel with twists and turns. It’s a bigger learning curve but if you like special effects, it’s a handy tool to have that is easier to learn than most 3D packages (at least for me it was). I just add a 3D Modeling section to my web site. It’s kind of lite right now but I plan on adding to it as I get more time to write. I give a bunch of links for tutorials on Cinema 4D.

The freeware Wax which also works as Vegas plugin can do that. Inside Wax there is a tool called "Vortex". Vortex is kind of a "tunnel-builder". This is great even for things like tornados etc.

Wow, I gotta really sit down with Wax one day and learn it. I played with it a bit but it sounds like there’s a bunch of untapped potential in there just waitin’ to be discovered.

This is what it'd look like done in Wax, shown by a single picture (but this is far from a well chosen texture ;-)):

--> tunnel

Can get animated in various forms, camera can fly through it.

I'm working with wax now ,,I agree with johnny,, I'm still trying to figure it out,,, great example of the tunnel......

When you installed Wax, you could open the standalone version and run the demo-file called "vortex.wxp". This demo file made by Satish can be found in the samples-folder which is in the Wax program-folder. This one shows a impressive example on how a tunnel can be animated. And it is good for exploring the way the tunnel effect was done.

I went to the website for Digit Magazine and odered the August 03 back issue. Interesting thing when I got my comfirmation e-mail it said it will charge my card 9.99 (Pounds) even when I supplied my US address. I hope they have a warehouse over here or that will be an expensive back issue.

That’s about right. I pay $14.95 an issue at the local Barnes and Nobel here in the states. (it’s imported you know). ;-)
