Moving Win XP Vegas 6.0 Files to Win 7 Vegas 9

See Subject. I discovered the Copy Media operation and moved a veg file via my LAN to a Win 7. When I fired up Vegas 9 with the veg file, I got some error message that at least one file is missing, an avi clip. It's probably in another folder or I assumed the copy media was going to find it, and transfer it. Is there some orderly way to do this so that I don't miss files?

Usually if you get a message about missing clips or files, it gives you the option to search for it. If you know or think you know where is it, start your search there. If not you can search the whole computer for it. When it is found, it may find other files there for the same project, and you can load them at the same time.

You just need to put all the files in the same path they were before - I've done this a couple times, including when I upgraded to Win7 from XP - my files were on a different drive so it was easy though - I just had to make sure the drive letters were the same as before.

In this case, I would have to go back to the XP for a search. I decided not to, since this was just a trail.

It sounds like maybe you copied several folders in one fell swoop. The drive letter will probably be a barrier to me. I have a single drive, C:, and much of my Vegas stuff is on a F:, G: and I:. Maybe there's a clever way to switch those drive letters to C: w/o making partitions? My C: is a 750G drive.

Vegas will find the missing files by searching for them. The drive letter won't matter.

Yes, I realize it will search for them, but I have maybe 100 projects, and about 20 quite complex. It will take a lot of searching. If I recall, if it loses its way, then I have to intervene to keep it going.

OK, I think I've got this figured out. I talked to Vegas Tech Support, came with my purchase of Vegas 9, which is on the Win 7 machine. There are a couple of alternatives. One is that a lot of my Vegas work is on my I-drive, which is a USB portable drive, 250G. I can move it to Win 7 and use the drive mgr to change the drive number to I. It will likely attach as D. I have another bunch of Vegas projects on a HD, but I could probably peel them off onto a Terrabyte drive and put them on Win 7 doing more or less the same trick. The eliminates the very slow process of doing a media copy to the Win 7 machine.

Actually, that may be sufficient.

One thing I discovered is that I can consolidate projects a bit more effectively than I presently have them. This may be helpful in some way. Use Media copy to copy to a folder on the same machine. That puts all the stuff for a project in the same folder. It might be useful, but I think the trick above is the way to go.
