MP: How to get a 4HR DVD?

I have seen these on the market and they look great with .little or no difference than 2hr dvds. I noticed in the info of one of the 4hr DVDs and the bitrate was varable and went from 39-43. I have two Full VHS home movies(about 4hr) that I want to transfer to DVD. I have purchased an analog to DVD usb convertor, but is this the way to go? Should I just capture it in Vegas (what resolution?) as an avi and go from there instread? (using tmenc or something)

According to the Bitrate Calculator

You should have a video bitrate of 2.3Mbps and audio at 192, if you use AC3 audio you should be able to get a little higher video bitrate.

These are old 8mm movies and DO NOT have sound. The person that needs them converted has no desire to put them to music. So, where do I put this bitrate in? Do I capture to vegas first? If so, what quality do I use, assuming 720x480 is a waste.

I'd capture in Vegas as AVI-DV, then edit if you need to and render out as a MPEG-2 file, when you are in the render settings just put in the appropriate bitrate, render it out and you should be good to go.

You will HAVE to render audio with it (it will be empty though). You can then set the audio bitrate down to close to 0 (do some tests first to see if you hear static).

Other people on this form have dome 8mm-DVD transfer and have said that addin gthe projector noise in the background makes it more enjoyable. Maybe you could do that.
