I have never heard of a "copyright free codec" for commercial use.

sorry to say fotovideo but i think you're in the wrong profession.

if you just get on with actually making videos and forget your obsession with codecs i'm sure you'll have a happy and uneventful future.

An MP3 is pretty much an MP3. Yes, you can output an MP3 from Vegas.

But, if you're working with audio and music, you'd probably be best working with a program like Sound Forge, which is an audio editing program (rather than a video editing program). It has many more options for editing and outputting your music and audio.

And Sony Acid is a terrific program for mixing music sources.

I have read the responses so far and can't help thinking maybe more is being read in to the original post than they intended.

Of course you can extract the audio using VP (certainly 10 onwards) but the question refers to a WAV to MP3 conversion recorded separately. I have in the past recorded sound separately to a stand-alone digital audio recorder* and then done the conversion of the WAV file using either Audacity or, as a standby, Format Factory. Both are free, although using Audacity you will also need to download the Lame application/plug-in for the MP3 part - again, free.

*The reason for not microphone connecting direct to cameras because of camera placement positions being too far from the sound source to be able to run cable(s) but microphones, small digital recorder and short run cables could be placed very close to the performance area. It worked splendidly but needed to convert the audio to MP3 for others afterwards hence use of programmes/applications mentioned. I do have SoundForge but already had those others and all kept very simple.

BRC,
You must read the user's history on this forum to understand the replies.
When you do, it will become clear that nothing is being "read into" the original post that isn't already there.
FotoVideo,
For the VERY last time, ALL of the codecs that ship with Vegas are LICENSED, and NONE ARE FREE!!
The PURCHASE of Vegas includes the necessary limited use licenses. GET IT??

Sick of this nonsense.

musicvid10,

No - there is no MUST. If I chose to spend time looking up the history of every poster of posts I have read then I would waste a lot of my life for little to no purpose. I prefer to take posts at face value and give some trust. I replied in what I believed to be as helpful a response to the post as possible. If the original post has something else in mind then it is up to them to say so. No animosity is necessary.

Given your comments I would sugeest no response would have been your best course rather than to add an invective note to this.

I trust your sign-off line did not refer to me.

If the original poster is a time

BRC,
My complete apologies for my lack of focus and attribution.
I've since edited my response for clarity.
Neither of my comments was made out of frustration with you, I can assure you.

This particular poster has been spamming the forum with identical fantasies for longer than I'm willing to condone. In six threads and 23 posts, he has spoken of nothing else. Its nothing but compulsive attention-seeking, and very juvenile.

I'm just sorry you were drawn into the same trap we were, when he has already been given the ccorrect information dozens of times!
