I have never had an issue using mp3 audio files. Mine are typically...

320 kb/s
2 channels
48.0 kHz

You may want to check the specs of your mp3's, or perhaps do a full reset of Vegas Pro 16, also check that you are using the latest build 361.

And, just for clarity, the late Vegas Pro Sony produced was version 13, it is now MAGIX, which you probably know, but by the slip of the tongue referred to it as 'sony'.

System Specs......
Corsair Obsidian Series 450D ATX Mid Tower
Asus X99-A II LGA 2011-v3, Intel X99 SATA 6 Gb/s USB 3.1/3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Intel Core i7-6800K 15M Broadwell-E, 6 core 3.4 GHz LGA 2011-v3 (overclocked 20%)

I've never had an issue with this either however I just rebuild my computer and reinstalled vegas pro 15 and now I get the same noise as you and vegas can't "see" any mp3 files in the explorer window. I have tried to uninstall vegas add VLC for the codec as that was part of my previous install and re install vegas but its the same. I was just about to contact support.

@BadTimingGG I do see a difference between your mp3 in Vegas, than mine. You are using mcplug2.dll (which is Mainconcept) and I'm using mp3plug2.dll.

Your files is 44,100 Hz, Stereo, MPEG, and mine is 320 Kbps, 48,000 Hz, Stereo, MPEG Layer-3

I'm not going to be of much help, sorry.

You can do a full reset by holding down the 'Ctrl+Shift' keys, while double left clicking on the Vegas Pro 16 desktop shortcut. A small window should popup, check the box 'Delete all cached application data', then left click on 'Yes'. This will reset Vegas Pro back to the original installation program settings, and the delete the pesky cached application data which may sometimes cause Vegas to do strange things.

However, if @Michael-JD is using a similar mp3 as you, it may not be a reset problem, rather a mp3 type problem. Have you ever had success with this example.mp3 before in Vegas? Does it play correctly in something like VLC player?

it was working prefectly fine but then out of no where it just did that smh

I don't, you may not be able to. If I'm correct Vegas will load the plugin based on the type of material. We need someone a lot more knowledgeable on audio than I.

Then I would probably try the full reset, it will not harm anything other than setting all setting back to installation.

It was a 44.1 file and your suggestion to delete the cashe worked great. As I mentioned I had installed VLC and associated the mp3 files before doing the reset so perhaps vegas reads my preferences on startup and now use VLC for these files.

Great help btw!
