MP3 "screeching" in Vegas Pro 16

Hi, I have installed the latest version of Vegas Pro 16 onto a new install of Windows 10 on a brand new PC, unfortunately when I drag an MP3 file onto the timeline playback is "screeching" in other words MP3 files are not working - please advise what I can do to fix this issue.

Edit: Also, I just noticed I can't import WAV onto the timeline either (get the black circle with a line). Completely new PC! Very frustrating - I decided to upgrade from 14 to 16 since I got a new PC - this should work out of the box instead I'm spending hours scanning the interwebs for a fix.

Cheers,
Mark

Well, I uninstalled and reinstalled several times finally I seemed to have arsed it and Vegas Pro 16 does now play MP3 files normally - I have no idea how this resolved itself but I'm glad I can now move on and get back to work.

I still can't import a WAV file onto the timeline but I can live with that since I generally use MP3 sound files anyway...

I've been getting a lot of advice lately to move away from Vegas and use Adobe instead but I'm resisting because I find Vegas more intuitive so hopefully the team can keep improving the software and iron out some of these basic bugs.

Could you audio files by any chance have been on a USB drive? I had something similar in the past, moving the files to c: drive fixed it.
