mp4 audio

I loaded an mp4 file into Sony Vegas Pro 9.0b today. When I paste the file into the timeline I get the video but not the audio. I know the audio is there because if import the mp4 file from my camera into Sony Picture Utility, it plays. I'm thinking there's something I need to do to get at the audiio track but I'm not seeing anything obvious. Thoughts?

Yes, you need to roll back from Quicktime 7.6.4 to version 7.6.2 or earlier. A search will bring up plenty of discussion in this forum.

This gets asked so often it should be made a sticky, IMO.
ForumAdmin, are you listening?

Thanks. I'm curious as to what Sony's position on this. I'm going to call them tomorrow.

I'm pretty sure that Sony won't have an answer (other than the fix suggested here) as the problem was caused by Apple and the newest version of QuickTime/iTunes.
You could try complaining to Apple but I have my doubts that they'll take you seriously :-(

From the release notes to the recently released Sound Forge V.10.0a:

"Fixed a bug that prevented Sound Forge Pro from opening or saving MPEG-4 audio when QuickTime 7.6.4 is installed"

I presume that if Sony can fix it in SF they can fix it in Vegas too, but I don't know how long we might have to wait until they do.

Until then, as you say, roll back to V.7.6.2 of QT is the workaround.

I called Sony about this. Not real helpful. Basically their recommendation is to roll back to 7.6.2. Which breaks iTunes. I think working with Apple is probably difficult.

As was detailed in other threads, you would need to roll back to iTunes 8 as well. That is working for others.
