MP4/AVI 'wrong codec' message in SVPro 10

Hi - I haven't used SVPro 10 in some time as I'd mothballed my PC (Windows 7)

I've some mp4 and avi files which I'd like to edit. However, the mp4 files have audio and no video, and the avi files come up with the message 'wrong codec' but with no further details.

Is there a work-around for these problems?

Thanks for any help

Files are just wrappers that use a wide variety of codecs. Use MediaInfo (it's free) to find out more information about what codecs was/were used to create the file and report back here what it says.

My guess for the mp4 files is to make sure you have a fairly recent version of QuickTime player installed but, as I said, it's just a guess.
The avi files could be anything (e.g. DivX, Xvid, etc.) so more information is needed.

BTW, please don't install a codec pack as those have been known to really mess up Vegas by overwriting the good codecs it uses with inferior ones built into the codec pack.

Thanks, I'll try that. I do know that Vegas can be a wee bit temperamental at times

More likely an open source codec than temperament causing your issue.
