What type of file is your original source video? A DVD is an MPEG2 file, not an MP4.

I agree with Dave. When you send your finished video to DVD Architect, you should output in the file format closest to your final DVD or BluRay project.

Thanks for the response. I'll try that next time, but the documentation indicates that mp4 files should work - at least the way I read it. I'll try converting them all.

Opening noncompliant files in Architect can be a bit dicey; more of a convenience than good practice. Do your editing and rendering in Vegas, where you have full control, and render to the compliant DVDA templates.
