MP4 was playing - but now Nooo... ?

I've had all sorts of weird problems with QT and MP4. In fact the problem seems to have spread to VLC player now too! QT now plays high def H264's really jerkily, and VLC player plays the files, but the picture keeps breaking up.

The only high def content I seem to be able to play properly now is MPEG and WMV stuff :-(

I seriously suggest investing in CoreAVC decoder. For $20, I went from only being able to decode 480p to playback of 1080p on my P4 2.4Ghz.
