mp4 with mp3 audio

Former user wrote on 2/7/2012, 3:45 PM
I have a client who has requested an mp4 video with mp3 audio for mobile playback. From what I can see, mp3 audio is not part of the mp4 spec. Am I correct? What should I suggest? I see AAC seems to be the default for mainconcept and the sony encoders in vegas and QT does not give me an mp3 option either.

Thanks

I think handbrake can do this. Follow MusicVid's process for DNxHD export and let HB encode it.

It's completely nonstandard; some devices will play it and some will not.
That being said, the Lame MP3 in Handbrake is really good.

Musicvid,

again thanks. Now I wonder if I should push and say that is not what they want, or give it to them and hope it does not come back to haunt me?

You could hedge your bet, and give them a file with both mp3 and aac audio, but your client may not be sophisticated enough to figure it out . . .

I have found that an mp4 with mp3 audio will only play back with certain media players. I gave up on it for this reason.

I know for sure that Youtube and other flash delivery for the web are not able to use mp3 audio.

Laurence,

I assume when they say mobile, maybe they are talking about for phones and such.

If it is streaming from a website, would the audio still be an issue?

I think I may provide both and give them an explanatin of why.

I just have to figure out how to bill because it is a lot of time involved to render and upload.
