mp4 with mp3 audio not possible?

Hi,

I want to render a project (1 long wav audio file with a lot of video clips) to MP4 using the Sony AVC setting with the "Internet 4:3 SD 30p" preset. The audio is transformed to AAC during this process (I manually changed the bitrate to 320kbps). The resulting mp4 file on my disk sounds good. However, once uploaded to Youtube the audio sounds like complete crap. I suspect that Youtube tries to convert the AAC audio to MP3 and screws up there, making it 56kbps audio or something like that.

So, I want to upload the MP4 file using MP3 audio in the hopes that Youtube will leave the audio bit alone during converting. But there does not appear to be a way to choose MP3 when rendering in Vegas. I can only select AAC.

Is there any way to get an MP4 file with MP3 sound using Vegas? Or do I have to use another program for that?

Thanks.

PS : the video with AAC sound does work properly on Vimeo, go figure.

PS PS : Using Vegas Pro 9.0c

This is completely incorrect. YouTube encodes AAC audio.

Furthermore, encoding MP3 as an audio stream with any video format would be extremely unusual, if not unheard of, unless of course you are a DivX disciple.

Your problem lies elsewhere. Anything higher than 16/44/192 would be unnecessary. A typical YouTube HD audio stream would look something like this in MediaInfo:

Audio

Hey musicvid,

Thanks for the detailed response. The problem seemed to have solved itself automagically. Apparently YouTube needs quite some time to properly encode the vid and it presented me with a low quality temporary version (even though the status said "Live" on my page). Now that converting is totally complete the video and audio quality is ok. Guess I was too impatient...

I did set the AAC quality to 16/44/320 though, so I guess there's no real need for that. I will keep your suggestions in mind for future uploads.
