MP4 won't render correctly anymore!

Hello,
today I am stumped as I attempted to render an HD project to several different flavors of mp4 in Vegas 13 (which I have done successfully before) The problem is when the render starts it shows a letterboxed 4:3 image in the preview! I tried disabling the GPU with no luck. I have rendered hundreds of mp4 files in vegas previously so am really at a loss on this one. I have checked the render and project settings many times and can find no irregularities.
Any help appreciated.

Check the file properties in Project Media.
Are they all correct?

Yes the settings are all the same as usual. When I rendered the dvd for this project I switched to 32 bit floating point (video levels) to see if it would look any different. I have switched it back to 8 bit but still same problem. I think the first time I went to render it looked like it was working but hung at about 70% render and wouldn't respond so had to shut down. After that I have restarted the system several times with same result.

Presumably the source is not 4:3...

Yeah, check the pixel aspect ratio in the media properties, and look at disabling "maintain aspect ratio" in the video event properties. If you're using a Mainconcept renderer, in the rendering custom template settings, uncheck "allow source to adjust frame size", and make sure the pixel aspect ratio is correct.

I would try a computer restart and also clear Vegas preferences when starting Vegas (hold down Ctrl + Shift). I've had a variety of weird render issues and clearing the preference usually solves it.

No. Hd edit always.

Ok. Thanks for the suggestions and will try these in the morning.

I finally got it to work by checking the "allow to resize" box in the render window. For some reason it rendered a 1648 X 928 HD file even though Vegas identified the footage as 1440 X 1080! I am wondering if my trusty XHA1 cameras or maybe my Firestore recorder is malfunctioning as I have problems now with Pluraleyes not syncing the A1 M2T footage. It says the footage is 29.97 when it is always 23.97 frames (this is verified in properties window).
Aaaay Karumba!
