MP42 file won't load

I have an AVI file for which Vegas says "Video: Stream attributes could not be determined" when I try to load it on the timeline.

This is perhaps a missing codec problem, but the file plays in Windows Media Player, and GSpot says the codecs are installed. GSpot reports the format as
MP42
S-Mpeg 4 version 2
Microsoft

What do I do?

I found the answer to my question in this post.

To summarize: I downloaded the codecs from here and installed as instructed. When I got to the part that said I already had a newer version installed, I told it NOT to overwrite and just carried on.

Now it works. Hooray! But I sure wish Vegas would be a little more helpful in situations like this.
