MPEG-1 Spec Expert, please

What is the "official" spec for MPEG-1 output?

I've heard the frame is supposed to be 352x240.

Vegas defaults to 720x480 (DV)

Also, what pixel aspect ratio should it be? Vegas defaults to .8889.

But at .8889 circles become flattened ovals. If I change it to 1.0, circles read correctly.

I dunno what the spec is, but i know a lot of MPEG -1 players don't like adjusting the aspect ratio properly. I usually encode at 328x240 1.0 when using DV source.
