MPEG-2 16:9 Audio & Video

As I new convert to SVMS (from Pinnacle) i'm more than happy and everything is fine (even on my relatively humble low-spec machine) but i've come across a potential problem and don't know if i'm just missing something. Apologies if this has been asked before but having searched the forums I can't find anything.

In Make Movie there doesn't seem to be a template to save a 16:9 MPEG-2 file with audio and video streams in the same file.

The "DVD PAL" template saves audio & video together but converts the ouput to 4:3, "DVD Architect PAL Widescreen video stream" maintains the aspect ratio but creates two separate files. Is there anyway to get a "DVD PAL Widescreen" template?

This is fine for creating the DVD in Architect but I like to keep copies of the final MPEGs on my computer and, if I can help it, really don't want to have two separate audio & video files (they don't play in Media Player properly if nothing else).

Thanks for your help.

Simon

the easiest workaround is to generate the mpeg-2 file using the 4:3 dvd mpeg-2 template, and then use a free program called dvdpatcher to change the bit in the file header that says 4:3 to 16:9.

dvdpatcher is a little harder to use than necessary but still easy. when you open the mpeg-2 file, a lot of parameters will be displayed but the "new" radio buttons aren't always set right. so make sure they are set to the same as the original file, and then make sure 16:9 is set, and update "all headers".

Thanks for this Allyn, i'll give it a go. Is there any reason why the template's not there?

i have no idea why there is no "DVD NTSC Widescreen". i've been complaining about it to sony since jan 2004 (movie studio 3.0).

dvdpatcher works. if dvdpatcher didn't work for you then i suggest you try it again because you probably aren't using it correctly. did you choose "entire file"?

also, are you using DVDAS or something else to author the disc? make sure your authoring program does not recompress the mpeg file.

in DVDAS you can set the project properties to widescreen, but i think that really only controls the menu.

if i use the dvd pal template and select the

''stretch video to fill output frame size''

it works.. but i didn't understand.. if this 120kb program can do this why sony can't do this..

is this really works or only cut the head and the buttom.. do you know??

are you doing all your projects with this program.. if it is working regularly and really i will thanks a lot for you...

I have this exact same problem and have posted a the question myself. It is amazing that you cannot select DVD NTSC Widescreen. Absolutely ridiculous in fact.

All my movies are in widescreen, my tv is widescreen, but I am unable to burn movies in widescreen. Has anyone else figured out how to fix this problem?

Thanks

From the 6.0B release notes:

A Use widescreen DVD format check box has been added to the Burn it to DVD portion of the Make Movie Wizard.

Maybe upgrading will give you what you want.
