MPEG-2 codec

Anyone know if Sony offers an MPEG-2 codec? I purchased Movie Studio 4 (vegas 4 and dvd author 2) But Windows Media Play 10 reports that I do not have a compatible codec for syncronization. I could buy one from Intervideo but then why didn't I just buy WinDVD 6.1 instead of Movie Studio 4.

Any suggestions?

Movie Studio 4 has the Mainconcept codec built in. Click make dvd, then save to hard drive. In the presented options, you'll see Mainconcept MPEG-2. (The trial version does not have this.)

Not sure what Windows Media Player means by saying you don't have a code for "synchronization".

If your goal is to make a DVD using Movie Studio, then see the other post. If you're trying to do something else (playback, ?) that isn't working, then let us know what you're trying to do and what's failing.

Movie Studio -DVD is a NLE and DVD authoring program. It's an "encoding" tool. What you need is a "decoder". Get the nvidia 30 day trail decoder pak, and if you like it, buy it.

I pretty sure that media player 10 includes the ability to decode mpeg-2 files. I have never specifically installed an extra mpeg-2 codec and have never had any trouble with windowsXP.
Try reinstalling it and see if there is an option to add support for DVD's or something similar.

You may not have explicitly installed the decoder, but do you have any other s/w on your pc for playing DVDs? I don't believe MS distribute an MPEG2 decoder.

There is an advantage to having a s/w DVD player on your PC - you can try out your menus before you burn the DVDs.

You are correct; MS does not have or come with a mpeg2 decoder.

Another alternative is to use Media Player Classic; a free player with a built-in MPEG-2 decoder.
