MPEG-2 compression

I was told that the degree of compression used in MPEG-2 files is adjustable.
I have a video that I rendered as a 6 gb .avi. When rendered it as MPEG-2 it was only 850mb. I want to put it on a DVD, where I will have much more room than that. I assume that less compression means better quality. Is there any way to lower the compression in SMS or isn't it worth it?

movie studio doesn't allow any tweaking of mpeg-2 parameters. if you want to do that, you'll have to buy and use an external encoder.

I just bought Sorenson Squeeze Compression Suite 3.5. It's a very popular
compression software that encodes your movies to just about anything you
could imagine. It comes with some great presets for those who don't know
much about compression but everything is adjustable and customizable.

They have a free trial version that'll put a watermark on your video and it
lasts for 30 days. I downloaded and used it for 2 days and decided it was
exactly what I needed. That was 2 weeks ago and I've used it just about
every day since and couldn't be happier.
