MPEG-4 (Nero Digital) and Vegas 4 - please help me

Hello,

I use Nero Recode to create MPEG-4 files (NeroDigital) and would like to edit its in VV4.
As workaround I use "Quicktime compatibility" options in Nero and, after Quicktime 6.5 installation, VV4 may open my files.

Also, as far as I know, we may use better 3ivx (www.3ivx.com) decoder to open MPEG-4 files. After 3ivx installation/Quicktime de-installation I may play MP4 in MediaPlayer, but VV4 cann't open files!
Could you please tell me, how may I force VV4 to use 3th-party decoder (like 3ivx)?

Thank you in advance,
Best wishes,
Sergey

First, go to Options/Preferences/General tab and uncheck the box named "Ignore third party DV codecs" and see if that helps (probably not).

Dunno much about 3ivx or Nero Recode. I THINK - in order for Vegas to play Quicktime-related files you must have Quicktime installed. I'm certain you need it to encode TO Quicktime.

Quicktime is, like AVI, a "container" format. Within the container you can use third party encoders, like DivX for example, or huffyuv. If you choose to render to QT or AVI then click the custom button, go to video tab and look in the pulldown menu "Video Format". Poke around to see if you can do what you want within Vegas.

Sorry I cant be of more help. At least you've been bumped up the forum list. :)

Sergey,
I had the same problem as you. What you need to download the Quicktime+iTunes combo. http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/ after you do that you will be able to edit mp4 files in Vegas.

Good luck.
