MPEG audio in DVD

When I encode a project in Video Studio then create a DVD with DVD architect Studio from the video file, it always wants to convert the sound to Linear PCM. This is very annoying as it dramatically reduces the effective size of a DVD disk for very little sound improvement (None in fact if the sound in the video file is compressed). How can I make a DVD video with MPEG compressed sound (without buying Vegas+DVD).

i don't think you can. i've read the mpeg audio is optional in the dvd spec and may not be implemented in all players. i think the only required audio formats are pcm and ac3. now if only movie studio could do ac3 audio...

AC3 and uncompressed audio are spec'ed into the NTSC DVDs. MPEG audio is in the spec for PAL DVDs.

Most DVD players will play both so it is mostly an issue if you want to pay for an AC3 license. AC3 encoding is not included in most budget software due to the cost of the license.

Being from Europe MPEG audio is the main format used (by amateurs) when making DVD's, even very cheap encoders include it. I am dissapointed with Sony as I thought this was an upgrade to a superior product.
