MPEG editing with VF2.c .Possible?

I am new to this tool VideoFactory 2.c. I downloaded the trail and I couldn't open my existing mpeg files. I am confused with optional mpeg2 encoder stuff ($29.95).

If I buy the mpeg2 encoder, does it allow me to open and edit my mpeg files or is it only to output to mpeg2 from my miniDV? Are there any work arounds to edit my existing mpegs within VF? Any help is really appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Papi

If you purchase and install the MPEG-II plugin you will be able to open and edit MPEG-II files as well as render to them. However, we usually suggest that you avoid using MPEG as source files whenever possible. That advice doesn't help if all you've already got is MPEG files though.

If you're looking for another possibility, i believe there is a free downloadable version of VirtualDub that will convert your MPEG-II files to AVI or DV AVI.

Thanks for the MPEG-II plugin info. Is it safe to say that retail version of VF can open just MPEG or MPEG-1 ( I am assuming MPEG and MPEG-1 are different )files with out buying the plug-in? I am trying to avoid using different programs. Thanks again for a quick reply!

Correct. MPEG-I is freely usable by anyone. MPEG-II requires paying a licensing fee (hence the reason it's sold separately).
