Mpeg file plays upside down

Hi everyone
I tried playing a mpeg file I made on a friend computer and it plays upside down. She has a current computer and all the MS updates, WMP9, XP HOME, ect. The file plays fine on my pc with no problems at all, but on her's WMP 9 tries to down load a codec but dosent find any and play the file upside down.
Has any one come across this? Thanks for your help.
Mark.

Not only upside down, also color negatives, and transpositional left to right...all in the same file. Weird. Sounds like Media Player is trying to play the file with the wrong codec. Normally it won't be able to open the file if it doesn't have the codec or one similar to it. When it can open the file anyways, by mistake... you see the result.

Remember what a codec is, just a means to encode/decode a file. With video the files are usually compressed. The player tires to read the information in the file header which should tell it what codec to use, the frame rate, size and so on. If you have the exact codec on your system all should go well. If not, all bets off. Anything can happen. Normally it tries to use a similar codec just like when your web browser substitutes fonts if it hits a web page for example containing fonts not on your system. With video, sometimes you can get very strange results if the viewer is successful in opening the file, but once doing so, not decoding the contents correctly. Not much you can do about it acept install the known right codec on the system that's having the problem.

So if i made the video with VV4 and renderd to dvd NTSC mpeg2. do I install the mainconcept codec on a computer that I want to play it on?

What file did you make on your computer that plays upside down on your friends?

Or...asked a different way - how did you make this video?

Did you do the editing and rendering in VV? If so, what did you render the file as?

There is only one reason I know that files flip upside down - but I'll hold off my explanation for your input.

Hi Kameroni,
I made the slide show project in VV4 on my computer. Rendered two files, two different ways, 1-default SVCD mpeg2 file. 2 default DVD mpeg2 file.
These two files play fine on my computer in WMP9.
When I play the files on my friends pc in WMP9, they will play upside down. I installed a the NEMO codec pack, but that didn't help and updated WMP9 codec and that didn't help ether. I realize that I may need the Mainconcept codec on the friends pc, but I don't know how to get it on that pc.

Thanks for you help.

Hey....

As the article supplied by Mjhig suggests (and I was going to also)...it is a Divx thing.

But from your description of the issue - it doesn't sound like you renedered anything on your system using Divx (just a presentation put together solely in VV and rendered to MPEG2).

So you are either looking at something that is on your friends PC (divx related) or there is some divx files in your footage.

kameronj,
the project only consists of pictures and a wav file for music. So no Divx- but I believe your on the right track. I believe there is a problem with my friends pc when playing my mpeg file. One thing that has me stumped is the fact that she can play other mpeg files fine with no problem.

I did how ever update her WMP to 9 and now the WMP9 will not play my mpeg file at all, but stilll plays the other.

I was thinking of unistalling WMP9 and going back to 8 and uninstall any codec packs, but what codec is needed for the mpeg file that I made to work on my friends PC?
